Project Overview
Sloane Curtis successfully delivered the refurbishment of Laurel House SEN School in Sevenoaks.
Laurel House School was a £1.2m fast-track refurbishment completed over 11 weeks to create a fully compliant, OFSTED-ready learning environment.
Internal works included the refurbishment of 70 rooms, including 30 classrooms, alongside new sensory rooms, upgraded electrical, fire alarm and drainage systems, CCTV, sanitaryware, kitchen facilities, and specialist teaching spaces. The refurbished spaces were designed to provide a safe and supportive environment tailored to the needs of SEN pupils and staff.
External works included roofing, fencing, windows, landscaping and EV chargers. These improvements enhanced the overall safety, accessibility and long-term functionality of the school estate.
Scope of Work
Service openings, roof penetrations, secure fencing, access controls, road resurfacing & parking, external repairs, plumbing & drainage, sanitaryware & kitchenette installation, partitions & wall lining, fire stopping & wall finishes, lighting, power, alarms & data.
Challenge
SEN schools are required to meet strict criteria for OFSTED approval. This includes ensuring all certifications and safety measures are in place, such as water safety, electrical certificates, fire risk assessments, and secure door control systems, all before the inspection date.
Solution
The project team carefully coordinated a fast-track programme to ensure that all specific requirements were completed on time. This enabled the successful delivery of a fully OFSTED-ready facility that met all criteria ahead of the inspection.
Outcome
The completed project received OFTSED approval first time, and successfully improved Laurel House SEN School, providing the students with new high-standard and safe facilities.
The school opened in this month, and now provides an exceptional learning environment for up to 100 pupils.
